An original pastel study, 30 × 40 cm, created from life in the summer of 2025 during the art residency “Along the Road of Northern Plein Airs” in Yakutia. The inspiration came from the Yakutsk ship repair yard — one of the industrial hearts of the region.

The artwork depicts the scene under the hull of a massive ship during repair: a powerful propeller, steel structures, and a large metal container with the word “МЕТАЛЛ” (“METAL”) painted on it. The artist was fascinated by the abundance of red shades — from warm terracotta to deep burgundy — shining vividly against the clear blue sky. The title “Heavy Metal” also reflects the atmosphere of the moment: during the work at the shipyard, heavy metal music filled the air, setting the rhythm for both the workers and the creative process.

The use of soft pastels conveys the texture of metal, the play of light, and the richness of color transitions, giving the painting both power and energy.

Medium: soft pastel, premium 360 g/m² cardboard
Size: 30 × 40 cm
Year: 2025
Framing: unframed
Coating: no varnish — preserved the unique “velvety effect” of soft pastels, also known as the “butterfly dust effect”

This work makes a striking accent for contemporary art collections and will fit perfectly into loft, industrial, minimalism, or fusion style interiors.
