The original pastel sketch “Us-Khatyn. Yakut Traditions and Symbols” was created from life in the summer of 2025 during a plein air trip to Yakutia. The artwork depicts the cultural and ethnographic complex Us-Khatyn, located near the capital of the Sakha Republic — Yakutsk.

In the foreground stands a carved wooden serge — a sacred hitching post of the Yakut people, symbolizing the connection between humans, nature, and the universe. In the background, two traditional buildings can be seen:

Balağan — a winter dwelling of the Yakut people with sloping walls and small windows,

Urasa — a dome-shaped summer house made of wood and covered with white birch bark, a symbol of purity and warmth.

The composition is complemented by a horse and its owner, emphasizing the close bond of the Sakha people with nature and animals.

The sketch is executed in soft pastels, conveying the calm atmosphere of the northern landscape and the harmony of traditional life.
